The PIC, as Boston’s workforce development board, is a key player at the intersection of education and workforce development.

In 2018, Governor Baker’s Workforce Skills Cabinet launched a statewide regional planning initiative to improve alignment between education and workforce in high growth industries and occupations. The PIC and our neighboring workforce boards joined education and economic development partners to produce the Greater Boston Workforce Planning Blueprint, which focuses on pathways to high demand occupations in the health care and computer/ IT fields:

  • Healthcare technicians and technologists (including licensed practical nurses, radiologic technologists)
  • Computer and math occupations (including software developers, database administrators, and computer support specialists)

This graph shows the growth of different sectors in Greater Boston from 2001-2016. Health Care and Professional and Technical are shaded in yellow to reflect that they are identified as priority industries.
