Labor Market Studies

The Center for Labor Market Studies tracks the labor market, examining employment, earnings, and labor force participation rates, in Boston, the Commonwealth and the nation. PIC initiatives respond to labor market conditions, taking advantage of informed opportunities and managing challenges.

For example, the chart below summarizes employment rates for high school graduates in the year after graduation. Boston's graduates have outperformed their national counterparts in every year. This is due, in part, to the fact that over 80% of Boston Public Schools graduates have a summer job during high school, which has enabled them to manage better the sharp decline in youth employment rates, which are the lowest in recorded history.
